This morning at 10 am EST, Royal Caribbean International stopped travel experts, bloggers, agents and aficionados in their tracks with the Quantum of the Seas live reveal event. It had all of the buildup of an Apple Reveal for the newest iPhone and iPad….we just LOVE new, shiny ships. And Royal Caribbean certainly did not disappoint today.
Unfortunately I was unable to tune into the live stream, so I was VERY thankful for the folks on Twitter who chose to live-tweet the event and provide real-time updates. I almost felt like I was there!
The Quantum-class of ships will feature two separate ships: Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas. Quantum of the Seas will begin sailing from Cape Liberty, New Jersey to Caribbean/Bahamas in November 2014, while her sister ship will set sail in 2015. Below are just a few of the super-awesome features aboard the new ship!
North Star: a glass-encased pod that elevates passengers above the ship for an aerial view of the ship and water below. The pod’s design was inspired by the London Eye and is a first aboard any cruise ship. North Star will be free for passengers, however a premium charge will be applied for peak times (assumption: sunrise/sunset) and for private events (i.e. weddings).
RipCord by iFly: the first skydiving simulator at sea! Take your chances or for the less courageous, observation booths will be available surrounding the attraction. No additional charge!
Two70: a venue with multiple personalities! Three story video wall that transforms throughout the day from family fun center to bar to performance lounge.
SeaPlex: a sports and entertainment complex being introduced on the Quantum class ships. Bumper cars, roller skating, indoor basketball court, ping pong…this is crazy!
Music Hall: a two story entertainment hall with a rock and roll vibe
Modular Staterooms: designed for families, now cabins of different sizes/types can be combined for easy access for larger groups
Virtual Balconies: inside staterooms will no longer feel as cramped with the virtual balcony; a projection of a sea vista that encompasses an entire wall!
Studio Staterooms: similar to the Norwegian Epic, now RCCL solo cruisers can book a cabin designed for single cruisers
Royal Loft/Loft Suites: some of the largest suites at sea!
Check out the Promo Video starring Kristin Chenoweth, the ship’s godmother!
