Soooooo…you’re dreaming of saying “I do” with your toes in the sand, champagne flutes raised, with your closest family and friends celebrating you on in paradise. Destination weddings are beautiful, memorable, and often more cost-effective than hosting a 200-person ballroom affair back home.
What you may not realize is that even paradise comes with receipts. There are a few “hidden” costs couples don’t always anticipate during the planning process, and that’s where working with an experienced travel advisor (hi, that’s me 👋🏾) can make the difference between stress and simply enjoying the journey.
Well….what would those costs be?
I’m so glad you asked.

Although it would be nice, unfortunately your wedding doesn’t magically come with free flights or airport transfers. You’ll need to budget for airfare, your own accommodations, baggage fees , and sometimes an overnight stay near the airport before departure. Think of it as the “cover charge” for the best party of your life.
The GOOD news is that many couples are reimbursed after the wedding in the form of comps (ask me more about this), but you’ll still have to pay up front for the costs.
Want to hire the local photographer you’ve been stalking on TikTok, or bring in the area hair and makeup team? Prepare to pay a fee to the resort for not utilizing their onsite vendors. I’ve seen outside vendor fees range from $500 to $1500, depending on the resort and its policies.

Got a large guest list? Be prepared to pay some extra money! Most advertised wedding packages include a certain number of guests – typically 20 to 30 people (including you, as the wedding couple). After that, you’ll have to pay per head for each attendee above the included number.

Resort wedding packages usually cover the basics — a ceremony setup, a simple cake, and a cocktail hour. But if your vision includes fireworks, upgraded décor, extra DJ hours, or a fully customized menu, you’ll want to plan for those extra costs. Spoiler: Pinterest-worthy weddings usually cost more than the “included” package.
Want to host a welcome cocktail party, treat everyone to a private catamaran excursion, or put together chic welcome bags? These thoughtful touches go a long way in making guests feel special — but they’re not included.
Although we encourage all of your guests to book within the room block and stay at the host hotel, oftentimes your guests can or will not follow your guidance. In order for them to access the resort attend your wedding, a day pass will have to be purchased. And one has to be purchased for each day they want to come over and hang out. (sometimes the couple covers this cost, and other times the guests are asked to pay due to not following directions. The choice is up to you!)

Hidden costs don’t have to ruin the vibe of your dream wedding, as long as you know they’re coming. That’s where I come in. I’ll help you spot those costs upfront, create realistic expectations, and stretch your budget in the right places so your wedding feels bougie, not basic.
One of the biggest days of your life deserves a stress-free, chic celebration that’s as unforgettable as your love story. ✨
